Introduced in 1955, S&W's representative revolver. It uses the medium-sized and lightweight K frame, which was the mainstream at the time, and uses the .357 Magnum bullet originally developed for hunting. There are 2.5, 4, and 6 size barrels available according to the purpose of use, and there is also a rare model of 3 inches. The model that later became the prototype of the M29, also known as the "44 Magnum", whose name was known throughout the world with the catchphrase "World's Strongest". Although it was aimed at a wide range of people, it was particularly liked by police agencies, and the 4-inch model was a symbol of American police with a practical appearance. S&W promises that the stainless steel model will be M66. The rear sight can be finely adjusted forward, backward, left and right, perhaps with the intention of using it for hunting. A 4-inch barrel model with a .38Spl bullet (normal .38Spl bullet, not the current .38Spl+P) instead of the .357Magnum was used by the Japan Coast Guard and the Coast Guard (later known as the Special Guard, SST). It was temporarily adopted for self-defense by the Bailiff. It seems that a speed loader was also issued for quick loading of spare ammunition.
